Daniel et Daniel share a passion that is all-consuming. As Toronto's best-known caterer the distinguished Frenchmen have been 'setting tables' at the finest locations in town for over 24 years.
The Daniels originally hail from Paris, France, but didn't hook up until 1980 after a joint assignment working at Toronto's Auberge Gavroche. 'It didn't take us long to recognize the chemistry of our partnership as Daniel et Daniel,' says Daniel Megly, whose luxury hotel background helps define his abilities in event management.
Daniel Clairet is the food element of the relationship, blending North American, European, and Asian influences with a fervent French sensuality. After apprenticeships in Patisserie, Confisserie and Glacier, and three intense years in cooking, Daniel Clairet put his knowledge to work in the restaurant business before being retained for three years as Private chef for the Rothschilds of France at Rue Lafitte in Paris.
"I didn't know it at the time but the Rothschild experience was the ultimate catering job," laughs Daniel Clairet.
Daniel Megly acquired his training through the Hilton hotel chain and took full advantage of the travelling and learning opportunities offered by the hotel. From the Orly and Paris Hiltons in France, to London and Amsterdam followed by Montreal and Vancouver, Daniel Megly's journey gained him international exposure and the professionalism of the hotel industry.
Graceful twin storefronts herald Daniel et Daniel's hustling retail food shop and catering headquarters located in the heart of Toronto's historic Cabbagetown. Behind the welcoming facade is a busy environment of over 60 full time employees that service primarily the special event division of the business.
'We started out with everything in one building, but in 1997 got the opportunity to purchase the adjoining building," explains Daniel Megly. 'Now we have an establishment worthy of our name.
Daniel et Daniel is proud of its French roots. 'The combined classical training of the partners has heen passed onto a skilled and devoted team of food-loving people dedicated to creating outstanding and flawless events.
